		<description>Hello, Vincent -
There is so much in your Anti-heroic piece that I must limit myself to one area. I&#039;ve portrayed Thomas Jefferson professionally for almost 20 years to convention audiences from Boston to Honolulu. I love most things Jeffersonian, and he is one of few topics I feel qualified to discuss.
I very much appreciate the choice you offer about Jefferson, slaveholder vs. Declaration author. Although he was both, he was also an outspoken critic of slavery. He labored in a variety of ways for several decades to bring the practice to an end. His active efforts ceased only when he became convinced his generation was not willing to address the issue. Yet, he foresaw a very difficult future for a country that kept postponing the inevitable.
Those who ask why Jefferson didn&#039;t free his slaves only display their own lack of understanding. The reasons are both legal and humanitarian, and available for anyone who will search for them.
   I remain
